Neighborhood Pride & Leadership

Primrose at Mission Hills' senior residents have always enjoyed music, dancing and parties. With some encouragement from the Activity Coordinator, several ladies eagerly agreed to form a Christmas choir. The choir's first outing included bringing all the favorite songs of the season door to door to the property's residents. The ladies dressed in red and donned Santa Claus hats complete with jingle bells. They sang beautifully, bringing gifts and sharing homemade cookies while they caroled.

The choir was met with such enthusiasm that the ladies extended their goodwill to families of a sister property, Rosemont at Highland Park. Alas, the seasonal choir tagged themselves Mission Hills' Dixie Chicks. The choir was invited back to the sister property for the July 4th Independence Day Celebration to sing for the residents' families. This time they dressed in red, white and blue.

Not wanting to be outdone, some of the men at Mission Hills asked to join the choir. Their most recent engagement was at the SAM Ministries shelter for homeless families in San Antonio. The gift of song has turned into a very powerful tool at Mission Hills, not only bringing the residents together, but encouraging them to participate in their local community.

  • Fun and creative activities are encouraged and nurtured through the "Good Neighbor Program"
  • The choir brought the community together through song
  • Neighborhood pride was additionally developed by extending the reach to a sister property
  • Goodwill and leadership were demonstrated by reaching out and spending time with those in need at the homeless shelter
